California’s First Viking Festival Turns 20

The annual Vista Viking Festival will transport visitors back 1000 years.

Visitors can mingle with Vikings and Norse gods at the Living History Viking Village, Marketplace and Festival. With live entertainment including Highland Way, The Silk Button Butchers and straight out of Denmark – KRAUKA.

Norway Hall, Sons of Norway Norge Lodge and Norwegian Fish Club Odin are proud to once again present the Vista Viking Festival, September 17-18, 2022. Opening our doors to the public for the 20th year!

Visit the first living Viking camps on our grounds. Re-enactment guilds such as the Archduchy of Brandenburg, Celtic Norse, Drafn, Guardians of Midgard, Red Hand, Vesterfolk and Wolves of Odin, bring our Viking village to life with authentic daily activities. Blacksmithing, fiber arts, fine metal work and freshly baked bread from our Viking oven

The Viking Market will be filled with vendors selling Viking wares and treasures brought from overseas – swords, knives, helmets, shields, drinking horns, jewelry, and more. Gear up to cosplay Viking. Or just take home a treasure or two to remember the day. Marketplace, food vendors have sausages, Swedish meatballs, Norwegian cookies and exotic foods including Fresh Lefsa and Krumkake.

Exciting viking battles will take place on our list field. Brave Viking warriors come from abroad to compete on our battlefield. Cheer on your favorite champions as they meet in one-on-one combat and wild group melee.

We have the first range of Viking weapons on the West Coast! Boasting archery, ax and spear shooting lanes. Our expert instructors have decades of experience and will train you in skills that will last a lifetime.

Odin’s Forge, our working blacksmith shop, will launch and craft new tools, weapons, and gear. Our experienced Smith managers and crew will demonstrate why blacksmiths were an essential part of Viking Age society.

Our Odin and Loki stages both feature live music and entertainment that will take you back to the days of the Vikings. Featuring some of the best Celtic and folk rock bands in the area, plus other surprise artists.

Enter the history of the Viking Festival by participating in one of our flagship competitions! To test strength. Viking log throwing. Hone your Viking skills for the Battle Cry, Horn Blowing, and Beard contests. Be sure to attend the World Famous Fish Fling Contest. On Saturdays, stay after the sun goes down for the spectacular Flaming Ax Throw.

At Norway Hall, our heritage room, learn about Scandinavian history, genealogy, culture, cuisine, crafts and textile arts demonstrations. Shop for handicrafts, snacks, and souvenirs from Daughters of Norway Hulda Garborg Lodge, Sons of Norway Norge Lodge, and Balboa Park House of Norway.

For the thirsty, find a selection of mead, beer and fine spirits, including Aquavit at the Odin Bar. In our Beer and Meading Place we host our popular “Meet the Brewmasters” event. Featuring some of the best micro-breweries in San Diego and the region, as well as excellent Viking Meads, some specially made for the Viking Festival.

KidZone for little Vikings. Toddlers can paint their own shields and swords. There will be crafts, music lessons, face painting, games and the fun learning game Rune Quest.

Online ticket prices are $20 for adults, $10 for youth, and $5 for children. Prices will be higher at the door, but we expect to sell in our online sales.
